Jay Kay’s green Ferrari

If I say Ferrari, you think of a red car, correct? Yesterday we shared the story of the model Ferrari that may provide an insight into the future design, and it was red, as always.

It’s safe to say that the bulk of LaFerraris destined for production will be painted various shades of red, but at least one of the cars has received a bright green finish nicknamed, for obvious reasons, ‘Kermit Green’. This particular LaFerrari belongs to Jamiroquai lead singer Jay Kay, an avid car nut and owner of various exotics including previous special series Ferraris like the F40, F50 and Enzo.

A year ago that the singer visited the Ferrari factory in Maranello to take a look at the LaFerrari, and was likely among the car’s first owners. Interestingly, Ferrari released a photo back then showing Kay looking at a piece of green trim material while at the Tailor-Made department… now we know why.

Photos of the completed car, posted to enthusiast site FerrariChat (via The Supercar Kids), confirm it’s linked with the singer and that the green theme continues into the interior.

“It’s an amazing car and, just looking at it makes you want to drive it,” Kay said when first seeing the LaFerrari. “I think it’s hard to imagine such a concentration of style, technology, performance and excitement all in the one package.”

The green LaFerrari is expected to make an appearance at the 2014 Goodwood Festival of Speed running from the 26th to the 29th of this month.

Tunisa sell off ex-dictator’s luxury cars

 

THE luxury car collection of Tunisian former dictator Zine El Abidine Ben Ali went on pre-auction display this week in Tunis, more than three years after his ouster.

Sixteen of the 39 cars, seized by authorities after Ben Ali was ousted in January 2011 in the first of the Arab Spring revolutions, were shown off at a casino on Wednesday and Thursday in the suburb of Gammarth. Thirteen other vehicles were displayed in a barracks.

The collection, which has yet to be valued, includes a Porsche, a Cadillac and a top-of-the-range Mercedes.

“Every member of the Ben Ali family owned between four and six cars,” Mohamed Lassaad Hmaied, director of Cruise Tour, the company mandated by the government to sell the vehicles, told DPA.

One of the factors that drove Tunisians into the street in protest was the way Ben Ali’s family used his 23 years in power to amass fabulous wealth.

Among Ben Ali’s wheels was a 1962 super-luxury Maybach, Germany’s equivalent of a Rolls-Royce. That car is to be left off the auction catalogue. The culture ministry has asked it be parked in the Museum of National Memory for posterity.

Would-be buyers have until May 21 to register for the sale, the proceeds of which will be paid into a account used to settle the former regime’s debts.

The latest craze for the rich in China

If you suddenly won the lottery and could afford a life of luxury, what would your first purchase be? A house, a holiday, maybe some exquisite jewellery? Well people in China are shunning these ideas and going for a more extreme and extravagant buy!

People act very strangely when they suddenly come into money.  Think of all the lottery winners who are famous for half a second and then mysteriously disappear.  If you ask any of them, they almost all say the same thing, “My life was actually more manageable before the money”.  For men and women in countries that have been poor for decades, but have suddenly reaped the rewards of globalization, the shift in fortune is even more dramatic.  When an entire country is seemingly wealthy overnight, people do some weird things.  Case in point – China.  A generation of men and women have made their fortunes by producing goods and parts more cheaply than anywhere else in the world.  They have been amassing their fortunes long enough that their children are now reaping the benefits of their business savvy.  As countless E! True Hollywood Stories have shown, there is little more dangerous, or ridiculous, than a rich child with no limits.  Such is the case in China, where immensely rich twenty and thirty-something’s are constantly on the lookout for new ways to both show off their wealth and entertain themselves.

A recent trend has been to paint or wrap luxury cars in gold.  Yep.  You read that correctly – gold.  It doesn’t really matter what car as long as the car is high-end.  This list seems to include anything by Ferrari, Lamborghini, Porsche, Rolls-Royce, Bentley, Infiniti, or BMW.  Oh!  Limousines count, too.  The general population seems to take these ostentatious displays of wealth in stride.  The bright gold cars are parked at malls and movie theatres like any other vehicle and nobody really bats an eye.  However, the cops have been known to confiscate one or two of the vehicles for being just too, too eye-popping.  It is hard to tell what constitutes too much versus all right when looking at a luxury vehicle wrapped entirely in gold, but apparently China’s police force has it figured out.

Alicia Keys tries out the Lamborghini Aventador

They have been married since 2010 and from the looks of it things are only getting better as Alicia Keys and husband Swizz Beatz know how to enjoy their time together. The American hip hop recording artist/ record producer/ composer posted on his Instagram account a picture of his beautiful wife while trying out his Lamborghini Aventador.

Yes, apparently the famous singer is no stranger to fast, luxurious cars and can taken on a Lamborghini quite easily. Alicia seemed to be enjoying her time behind the wheels of the said car and definitely pulled out the right outfit for the occasion.

Her husband, Swizz Beatz also seemed to be enjoying himself as he posted with the black and white picture the comment “BFFs” suggesting that before being lovers, husband and wife they are BFF. Thus, they know how to spend their time together.

Numerous fans were impressed with the Beatz’s words and took to his Instagram account to post some really heartwarming messages. Concerning the Lamborghini, as you expected, it looked great and of course it, in true hip-hop/ rapper style, it sported a white shade. Nevertheless, we still like the two and we honestly wish to see what cars will they try out together.

Jaguar Super Bowl Advert Part II

Last week we brought you a teaser featuring Sir Ben Kingsley looking every bit the sinister British villain as he mugged for the new Jaguar F-Type Jaguar coupe. This week we can reveal two more “British villains” wrapped up in the “sinister” carmaker’s commercial campaign.

First try this dark little teaser featuring film star Tom Hiddleston (best known for his work in “The Avengers” and “War Horse”) who hints at the Jaguar’s ability to quickly move four business associates…

Does he mean riding in the car with him, or in the new coupe’s spacious trunk, though? (Yeah, we know that’s the obvious joke! Let us play along!)

The other “villain” making an appearance alongside Hiddleston and Kingsley is actor Mark Strong (“Sherlock Holmes,” “Zero Dark Thirty,” and “Kick-Ass,” to name a few of his films). Together, these three Brits do indeed make up a perfect trio of British villains.

Now all we have to do is wait for is the actual Jaguar Super Bowl commercial and see if it is worth all the hype – even veteran Super Bowl ad hawks like us have to admit that this has been a nearly unprecedented level of pre-commercial marketing effort… and expense!

Vintage Porsche 911 for Kate Moss´s 40th Birthday.

She just turned 40 last week, but supermodel Kate Moss shows no signs of slowing down.

After a slew of events to help her celebrate the big 4-0, Kate and husband Jamie Hince took her new vintage Porsche out for a spin on the weekend. Kate was dressed in black, accordingly, with a black biker jacket, sunglasses and skinny black jeans.

The car, a black 911, was presented to the supermodel on her birthday and clearly Kate and Jamie have just been itching to get behind the wheel and take the sportscar out.

Kate and husband Jamie were clearly excited about taking the car, reportedly costing some £20,000 as they smiled excitedly during their journey.

The  Croydon-born mum-of-one was seen pulling up at her Oxfordshire home in her  new Porsche 911, alongside a whole host of celebrity pals on Saturday  evening.

Kate had been enjoying a spot of dinner at the The Five Alls pub, at Filkins Cotswold Inn with her husband just beforehand.

And despite partying non-stop for days, Kate looked fresh-faced as she pulled up with Jamie.

She was dressed in a simple, yet ever stylish, all-black ensemble, with  skinny jeans, a sheer top exposing a camisole underneath, a pair of  suede knee-high boots and a leather biker jacket with arm fringing.

Her long, blonde locks appeared smooth and silky and her skin was radiant,  appearing to be wearing only a touch of cheek blush and nude lipstick.

Kate celebrated her actual birthday last Thursday with a long, boozy lunch,  followed by a late meal at The Dorchester later that evening.

For lunch, Kate partied with Naomi Campbell, Stella McCartney, Sadie Frost, Jo Wood, Mario Testino and Sir Phillip Green at the 34 restaurant in  Mayfair.

As she quaffed champagne, vodka and cocktails with  friends, Kate was heard to insist: ‘I might be 40 but I still know how  to party.’

Onlookers said they ordered very little food, only starters and a few nibbles, in two and a quarter hours at the restaurant. After leaving 34 at 6.30pm, she then headed straight to the Dorchester Hotel, where she partied until 1.30am.
